A beautiful evening at my cousins house.

A quick post about my upcoming phone choice

a reply to @FuzzWad about Rooting and current Moto Droid issues.

with a conversation generated by - @rantpittsburgh and a phone upgrade by @pghjen

Apps - what bloatware? you talking about preinstalled apps. There are few that I don’t want. My issues is many many running services in the background even when you turn-off background updates. (+1 for iPhone) However, because of the limiting apps on the iPhone I am already finding apps on my iPod Touch I want especially Grooveshark - Pandora isn’t a replacement (so that’s a trade-off)

Battery - having an extended battery defeats the purpose of having good battery life - I already have a portable charge anywhere, car charger, and a 2nd battery - I want to loose it all - the iPhone would have enough for the day. (This is a HUGE negative for the Droid - while the iPhone is better it’s still not perfect)

Display The fact is the iPhone display kicks the ass of the Droids. The animations are far smoother, menus and navigation are cleaner. (+1 for iPhone)

Notifications Hate the current iPhone push Notification system in some ways - like that its push rather than sync. Dislike that it pops over and you can’t save it for later. Of course with the new iOS this will change (draw most likely after new system)

Amount of Apps - iPhone has much better games which is a negative and positive in productivity terms and entertainment.

Hardware - both the Droid and iPhone have a nice form factor however - I can not stand the lack of a physical keyboard on the iPhone.

Rings/Alarms - both suck - Rim kicks their ass in terms of custom notifications and options. Loved the Blackberry profiles.

Rooting - not a fan of the idea because of the time and effort. Same thing with Jailbreaking - I don’t want to have to spend lots of time getting my phone todo what I want it todo I want the company I buy it from to build a phone to what I want not have to go around all that.

I really should make a long blog post about this issues, you can refer to my previous post about switching to Droid from Blackberry -
